Hello Worldby Mark Anderson |
“The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not ‘Eureka!’ but ‘That’s funny.’” – Isaac Asimov
If there was one topic missing from my recent book, ‘The Pattern Future: Finding the World’s Great Secrets and Predicting the Future using Pattern Discovery,’ it would be the short paragraph below. Now that we have come out of stealth mode and launched Pattern Computer, Inc., I can share this exciting new “chapter” with all of you. Here is how I think about the launch of this great new company:
What is more exciting, pattern recognition or pattern discovery?
In the history of science, poor questions led to no discoveries, and good questions led to incremental discoveries, but GREAT hypotheses led to discoveries that changed the world.
The difference between “poor” and “great” hypotheses is the difference between pattern recognition and pattern discovery.
In the history of human/computer interaction, until today, we have told computers what to find using pattern recognition, with incremental results.
Starting today, we will ask computers to find the unknown, the great new ideas, using pattern discovery.
What does Pattern Computer make? Sure, we design great software and systems. But what do we really make?
We make discoveries.
Welcome to Pattern Computer™.
