Pattern Computer Comes Out of Stealth Mode and Launches Groundbreaking Pattern Discovery Engine™ Technology
*Unsupervised, Multi-Dimensional Machine Learning Algorithms Reveal New Insights in Breast
Cancer Prognosis, Personalized Medicine*
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — May 23, 2018 — Pattern Computer, Inc. www.patterncomputer.com, which has developed a proprietary pattern discovery system to uncover valuable insights from vast datasets, today announced the world’s first pattern computer system and the public launch of its platform technology after being in stealth mode for the past two years. Pattern discovery is an emerging category – an extension of the machine learning field – that distinguishes itself by using both supervised and unsupervised learning. While pattern recognition solutions are widely available, pattern discovery uniquely identifies previously hidden, higher-order correlations in vast datasets without instructions as to where or what to look for. Pattern Computer’s applications are wide-sweeping, with the promise and opportunity for tackling some of the world’s most complex problems and the largest datasets; in line with that mission, the company’s first path to market is biomedicine.
“For companies with complex data, there has never been an accessible and affordable way to discover new patterns,” said Mark Anderson, CEO and founder of Pattern Computer. “Previously, we’ve been resigned to making decisions based on information programmed by humans, recognizing patterns and looking for solutions that we already suspected. To overcome this, we’ve built a Pattern Discovery Engine which serves science as a “hypothesis generator.” Our initial work in breast cancer prognosis and our collaboration with Dr. Larry Smarr on gut microbiome analysis prove that our system indeed delivers unknown pattern discoveries, and will advance the industry standard in multiple domains.”
The ubiquity of data and the developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning have raised the stakes for producing noteworthy insights. Pattern Computer takes a big step forward by offering customers dramatic insights into multi-dimensional data to discover high-order correlations, unveiling previously hidden information in a category or market. In essence, researchers and analysts will be given a vastly improved microscope for identifying and testing new and promising hypotheses on the way to solving entrenched and persistent medical and scientific problems.
As part of an unveil event in San Francisco, several of the world’s foremost experts in their fields offered their insights and optimism for the power of pattern discovery:
- Dr. James (Ben) Brown, Department Head, Molecular Ecosystems Biology, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Professor and Chair of Environmental Bioinformatics, University of Birmingham, UK shared information about the magnitude of the complexity that Pattern Computer has tackled, and presented hypotheses for radically improving breast cancer prognosis and determining possible curative treatment paths. Dr. Brown has been helping Pattern Computer set up its biomed practice.
- Dr. Leroy Hood, M.D. and Ph.D., co-inventor of the DNA sequencer and pioneer of personalized medicine, shared insights to enable P4 (personal, predictive, preventative, participatory) medicine from his highly regarded Institute for Systems Biology, and his enthusiasm for pattern discovery to contribute to this nascent field.
- Dr. Larry Smarr“, Ph.D., founding Director of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology Calit2, a UC San Diego/UC Irvine partnership, and Harry E. Gruber professorship in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at UC San Diego’s Jacobs School, presented an overview of his insights into personalized medicine insights. Dr. Smarr, known as “the world’s most measured man,” described how Pattern Computer’s technology delivered new insights on gut microbiomes, self-measurement, and health-to-disease progression.
Pattern Computer’s executive team is led by CEO Mark Anderson—entrepreneur and the author of ‘The Pattern Future,’ which examines how trends in data inform the future. Anderson is the only person to have predicted both the financial crisis of 2007-2008 and oil price collapse of 2014-2015, and his ‘Strategic News Service’ report is read by titans of tech and business including Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.
About Pattern Computer
Pattern Computer uses proprietary pattern discovery techniques to perform high-dimensional data analytics in any field with significant data complexity. The result is the delivery of breakthrough insights with demonstrable value.
Transcending the limits of machine learning, Pattern Computer discovers previously hidden patterns in multi-dimensional data. Pattern Computer can discover higher-order correlations – going beyond pairwise / order two relationships and assessing correlations to the nth degree – without human supervision, greatly expanding the scope and depth of correlative findings. While applied first in the field of medical research, this technology can be used in virtually any industry, to uncover novel insights and transform research and business. More to come.
